Another wine with serious aging potential, the fabulous and flamboyant 2021 Beaux Frères ‘The Beaux Freres Vineyard’ Pinot Noir comes from Dijon clone Pinot Noir. Also very dark in the glass, this reveals rich wild blackberry and black cherry notes on the nose with stony soils, cigar box and shades of milk chocolate. The palate is plush as silky tannins frame this gorgeous core of black fruit flavors alongside crushed mint, cardamom dusted red raspberry and rich fig notes. Big and bold, this has incredible richness yet comes across weightless on the mid-palate. Give this an hour of air if enjoying now, as this beauty will live on for easily another twenty years to come. This is one of the great wines of Oregon that I’ve had the pleasure of tasting in the past year. Drink 2025-2045- 98

Dark and brooding, the 2021 Pinot Noir The Beaux Frères Vineyard opens slowly in the glass, mixing dried black cherries and cola with savory herbs and dusty earth. It’s elegant and refined with polished red berry fruits and saline minerals guided by brisk acidity. Long and staining, the 2021 finishes with a youthful grip and primary wild berry concentration, promising many years of positive development. Today, the 2021 is holding its power in reserve.

Medium ruby-purple, the 2021 Pinot Noir The Beaux Frères Vineyard opens slowly on the nose to a core of wild blackberry and blueberry, revealing tones of forest floor, licorice, bitters and floral potpourri as it spends time in the glass. The light-bodied palate is soft and juicy with surprisingly concentrated flavors for its delicate frame, and it has a long, floral finish. This is elegant, expressive and easy to drink!

This estate’s signature vineyard was a plum orchard for many years. This site is a mix of own-rooted vines along with grafted Dijon clones. The oldest vines are 34 years old. This wine combines elegance and depth of complexity to a tee. The aromatics of the site’s signature forest floor and exotic spices hint at lingering dark fruit notes. Red berry fruits give way to pluots, black plums and mint. There is a savoury underline throughout the wine’s balanced, elegant texture. Silky tannins to finish.

A gorgeous Pinot Noir, the plantings from 1988 are being replanted as the phyloxerated vines are being removed. This wine shows elegance and grace while maintaining depth and concentration, but make no mistake, it’s built to age. The Beaux Frères Vineyard is clonally diverse with a massale selection of Pommard and Wadenswil and 115. Red fruited aromas and beautiful interplay between bright berries mixed with fresh mint and savoury herbs. The palate remains fresh and elegant, with red-fruited generosity and savoury depth of spearmint and wild anise.

Darkly oral, the 2022 Pinot Noir The Beaux Frères Vineyard wafts up with an earthy bouquet as flowery underbrush and crushed ashen stones complicate dried black cherries and a flourish of lavender. This is cool-toned and racy, with a cascade of sweet spice and ripe red and blue fruits that ow across a stream of vibrant acidity. The 2022 finishes structured, long and beautifully balanced, leaving a classically dry sensation as rosy inner florals gradually recede. In 2022, Mikey Metzel pushed the new oak up to 35% from 25% due to the quality of the tannins and freshness of the fruit.

The 2022 Pinot Noir The Beaux Frères Vineyard has dynamic aromas that segue from charcuterie and flint to roasted cranberries, forest floor and spice. The medium-bodied palate has pleasantly broody, meaty flavors structured by chalky tannins and vibrant acidity, and it has a long, spicy finish. It will benefit from 2-3 years in bottle.
