Churchill's Vintage Port

Following on from the 2016 declaration, the 2017 Vintage had to be an exceptional Year to be declared as a consecutive Port Vintage. And so, it was! From a production point of view, 2017 was one of the shortest years in the Douro due to the heat and lack of rainfall. It was the first time that we started picking our Port grapes in August. Considering the heat stress on the vines it is amazing that the 2017 Ports not only had concentration but also a fresh vein of natural acidity to give a robust tannic structure. They had gravelly tannins, not fine tannins, and this bodes well for the longevity of the wine. There is also a raw, wild character about our Churchill’s 2017 Vintage Port. Rather like the 2011, the Churchill’s 2017 is a striking Vintage that will give a great deal of pleasure for years to come.” – Johnny Graham, 2021.

Very deep violet colour. Intense and focused on the nose, with layers of fresh blueberry aromas upfront. Exuberant and vinous on the palate, with fresh flavors of crushed blackberries in combination with a gravelly tannic structure and a vibrant natural acidity in a long lasting finish.

Produced with old vines (on average over 50 years old) from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub-regions in the Douro Valley, of which the backbone comes from the old vines of Quinta da Gricha. Store at cellar temperature. Ageing potential of +30 years.It will be approachable before, but will reach its best from +15 years throughout.

Serving: Stand the bottle upright for a few hours before decanting. Best decanted at least two hours before service. Serve at room temperature (16º – 18ºC).

Churchill's Vintage Port 2017	96 Wine Enthusiast The potential of this great wine is enormous. Floral and richly structured, with layers of black fruits, the Port has a density and tough edges that are both essential to aging. Drink this rich, ripe wine from 2032. 96 Wine Spectator Ripe, juicy and focused, this features a core of steeped fig, boysenberry and blueberry fruit, well-harnessed by a sleek, graphite-edged structure and infused liberally with anise, fruitcake and Christmas pudding notes. Vivid and racy in feel through the finish. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca, Tinta Francisca and Tinta Cão. Best from 2035 through 2055. 2,000 cases made. Churchill's Vintage Port 2020	96 Wine Spectator Well-packed, with a dense mix of briar, black currant, menthol, plum reduction and licorice root notes that give this a tumbling feel as it moves along. Shows serious underlying grip and an inner freshness, which bode well for cellaring. Some patience is required. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca, Tinta Francisca and Tinta Cão. Best from 2038 through 2055. 1,600 cases made, 320 cases imported.
