Domaine Francois Villard, Cote Rotie "Le Gallet Blanc"

Made by Francois Villard, with a degree of whole cluster fermentation, this wine shows the racier, focused and peppery side to Syrah. Bright acids, notable tannin and pure, clean flavors are the norm here. Given the high level of stem usage, this wine will benefit from short term cellaring. Deep color with a wonderful intense and perfumed nose. The palate has notes of blackcurrants, spices, and liquorice with a long finish. This wine pairs well with beef, venison, and lamb.

Expressive, mineral-accented cherry and dark berry preserves, exotic spice and incense scents show sharp definition and pick up hints of violet and olive paste with aeration. Seamless and broad on the palate, offering intense cherry-cola, boysenberry, fruitcake and licorice flavors that steadily firm up on the back half. Echoes the blue fruit note on an impressively persistent, spicy finish that features polished tannins and building florality. Two-thirds whole clusters and 50% new oak.
