The sixty-year old vines produce more concentrated grapes. Their roots are deeply established in the ground (up to 25 metres) and draw the essential nutrients to give a perfect, balanced wine. Jean-Marc Brocard uses all his know-how to preserve the Kimmeridgian soil and his wines reveal all the typical minerality of the Chablis appellation.

Jean-Marc Brocard, Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2022	91 Vinous The 2022 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru, aged half in foudres and half in stainless steel, has another quite backward nose with touches of nettle and asparagus, hints of orange rind emerging with time in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry, taut and linear, unashamedly malic and appley in style with a strict, almost terse finish. Fine. 94 Decanter Julien Brocard explains that the vines here age up to 75 years, reaching down 25 metres into the soil. More depth of colour than some. Restrained on the nose with a brooding, savoury character on the palate. Initially a bit more subdued than the ‘straight’ Chablis Sainte Claire, this has the potential for further future development given the concentration on show. Certainly pushing premier cru quality (if not even higher). 92 Wine Enthusiast Delicately perfumed, the wine opens with balanced notes of straw and honeysuckle. The nose is gracefully aromatic, revealing more orchard fruit and Bosc pear. On the palate, it’s textured and round, with a harmonious presence that enhances its elegant profile. Jean-Marc Brocard, Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2023	90 Vinous The 2023 Chablis Vieilles Vignes comes from the first vineyard given to Julien Brocard’s father, the vines were planted in 1946, the same year his father was born. Cropped at 30hl/ha, it has a very pure bouquet with elderflower and light honey and acacia scents.
