Larkmead Vineyards LMV Salon

Cabernet Franc has historically played a supporting role in the LMV Salon blend. It is a noble variety, but one with an uneven history in Napa Valley, both qualitatively and stylistically. Here at Larkmead, there is success in planting Cabernet Franc in heavier, richer soils.

Moving forward, the goal is to allow this wine to differentiate itself by including a higher percentage of Cabernet Franc (up to 70%); this will elevate the variety’s complimentary characteristics (spice, herb) to Cabernet Sauvignon and produce a blend that best communicates the complexity of the estate.

A blast of black cherry, herb, spice, leather and mocha flavors hits the palate. in the 2019. the LMV has plenty of brawny tannin, so a few years in bottle seems advisable, I can’t wait to see how it ages. 94 Wine Advocate A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon and 49% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2019 LMV Salon bursts with bold scents of crème de cassis and blueberry preserves, plus underlying notes of wild sage, camphor and pencil shavings and a waft of raspberry leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the vibrant red berry palate is tightly knit with fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant. 92-94 Vinous The 2019 LMV Salon is a dark, powerful wine, yet it retains a super-classic sense of structure. Bright acids and vibrant tannins give the 2019 a real sense of energy that carries through to the finish. Black cherry, smoke, licorice, gravel and incense add striking aromatic top notes.
