Miguel Torres Santa Digna "Estelado" Sparkling Rose
Tasting note: Pale, delicate pink in color, this sparkling wine has fine bubbles that are intense, persistent, and elegant. Fruit aromas predominate on the nose (red and citrus fruits), while the palate is fresh, intense, and untamed, characteristic of the great ancestral País variety.
Serving: The perfect wine for any celebration. Ideally served between 6°C and 8°C.
Awards:
- First Chilean sparkling wine made from the País variety.
- Named Best Sparkling Wine in Chile 2012 and 2013 (Descorchados and Wine of Chile Awards).

If you are looking for a fairly traded sparkling wine in the world, there aren’t very many. Estelado is a rarity that ticks all the boxes: traditional method (12 months on lees); an ancestral variety, País; an alluring rosé color. It’s refreshing (7g/L residual sugar) with lively citrus and red fruit notes. Good value too. Well worth seeking out.

País is the Chilean name for the mission grape, brought to the New World by Spanish missionaries and colonists in the mid-1500s. Recent DNA analysis identified it as listán prieto, an old Spanish variety. So it is perhaps fitting that this delightful, refreshing sparkling rosé is made by the Chilean outpost of Spain’s famous Torres winery. Bright flavors of red berries and wild herbs seem to carry history with them. Here’s an opportunity to taste wine from the first European vinifera grape variety planted in the Western Hemisphere. Forgive me, but all I am saying is give país a chance. Certified vegan and fair trade. ABV: 12 percent.
