Elegant cherry nose with touches of violets. On the palate it is medium-bodied but intense, with fine-grained tannins and good acidity to give length and lift. A light touch though still structured.

92pts Wine Advocate– 2016 vintage

FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
Bottled only one month before I tasted it in late May, the 2016 Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martin is excellent, wafting from the glass with a pure bouquet of sweet cherries, cassis and wild berries, with little hint of the savory nuance to come. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, layered and chalky, with a deep core of sappy fruit, rich but controlled in profile. It’s a superb bottle of Mercurey.

93pts Wine Advocate– 2017 vintage

FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE
Lorenzon’s 2017 Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martin Rouge was showing especially well, offering up a pretty bouquet of raspberries, plums, potpourri, licorice and a stable hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a broad-shouldered frame of powdery tannin, ripe acids and a long, sapid finish. Vinified with two-thirds whole cluster, its effortlessness marks it out as one of the finest renditions of this cuvée that I’ve tasted.
