Elegant cherry nose with touches of violets. On the palate it is medium-bodied but intense, with fine-grained tannins and good acidity to give length and lift. A light touch though still structured.

Champs Martin is Bruno Lorenzon’s stoniest, most limestone-rich vineyard, planted with a high-density 14,000 vines per hectare. Racy and refreshing, this has aromas of white pepper and citrus that segue into a palate of cinnamon oak spice and tangy acidity.

FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE
Lorenzon’s 2017 Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martin Rouge was showing especially well, offering up a pretty bouquet of raspberries, plums, potpourri, licorice and a stable hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a broad-shouldered frame of powdery tannin, ripe acids and a long, sapid finish. Vinified with two-thirds whole cluster, its effortlessness marks it out as one of the finest renditions of this cuvée that I’ve tasted.
