Francois Mikulski Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres

“The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrieres needed a little encouragement in the glass, but it reveals some lovely dried herb, almost tertiary scents that combine well with the citrus aromas. The palate is lighter on its feet than the Les Charmes with a very clean and pure orange peel and spice-tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. Great potential here – one of Francois’s best Meursault 2012s.” The Wine Advocate

FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrière, like the Meursault Charmes, came away comparatively “uninjured” by the frost this season. It has a not dissimilar bouquet to the Charmes: well defined with orange sorbet and apricot blossom notes, a steeliness underneath that lends the aromatics focus. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry. The acidity here is nicely judged, maybe more tensile than the Charmes with equal length, perhaps just requiring a tad more terroir expression to evolve on the last third. Good potential and I expect this to land at the top of my banded score. 90-92

FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE
“Oak is never a strong influence in this domaine’s wines – ‘if I could use no new barrels, I would,’ says François Mikulski – and it’s barely noticeable on this scented, pithy white from a premier cru that often makes much broader wines than this. It’s sappy and bright, with alluring pear and tangerine fruit and refreshing acidity. Drinking Window 2021 – 2030”
