Tasting Notes The 2014 Charlie Clay Pinot Noir has a deep robust garnet color. In the glass, there is beautiful harmony between aromatics of ripe cola-berry, lilac, sweet baking spices and nuances of dried rose petal. On the palate, the entry is bright, followed by a burst of sweet candied-red cherry, wild pomegranate and roasted coffee. The balance and concentration of this wine speak to the nature of this vintage. While enjoyable now, this wine will drink best over the next 6-8 years and age gracefully for many more after that. Production Notes We were blessed again with a nearly perfect growing season for 2014, devoid of extreme weather conditions. Mornings of lingering fog from the Pacific Ocean, afternoon highs leveling off in the mid 80s, and cool, cloudless nights. The fruit was able to hang late into the month of September resulting in complex and intense fruit with firm tannins. The fruit had amazing uniformity of ripening, yielding complex flavors without excessive alcohol and still retaining its acidity.
