Puligny Montrachet is a small village in the Cotes de Beaune producing some of the very finest chardonnays in the world. At La maison Etienne Sauzet extreme care is taken in the vineyard and care for the vine is at a maximum. During the vegetative period, there is a strict pruning system in order to limit the yield. This ensures very good concentration in the grapes. One of the estate’s highest vineyards planted on poor stony soils. The wine very much expresses this terroir, very mineral and taut, less voluptuous than the Villages but finer and more complex, notes of citrus, salt, limestone and struck flint with more generous touches of honeysuckle.

90pts Wine & Spirits– 2017 vintage

“This wine’s fruit is buttercup- yellow, with
richness that brings to mind lemon custard and
notes of lavender. There’s enough acidity to clean
up that richness, so the wine feels potent and
satisfying as it lasts.”

92pts Wine Advocate– 2017 vintage

“Unfurling in the glass with aromas of wheat toast, crisp
green orchard fruit, white peach and subtle hints of
nutmeg, as well as a touch of youthful struck match,
Sauzet’s 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne is
medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, with a lively
but envelopingly textural profile, excellent concentration
and tension at the core, and a long, delicately chalky
finish. This saw a very judicious 25% new wood and is
shaping up to be one of the finest renditions of this
cuvée that I’ve tasted.”

93pts Wine Spectator– 2017 vintage

“The peach and apple flavors are wrapped in butter
and baking spice notes in this rich, almost creamy
white. Harmonious and charming enough to be
enjoyable now, yet there is good cut underneath
and fine length. Drink now through 2024.”
