Sweet black cherry and black raspberry fruit, incense, camphor and licorice aromas, jump from the glass of this elegant, pure, full-bodied, luxuriously fruity, extravagantly concentrated wine. Beautifully balanced with fresh acids and a long finish, it , too, should drink well for 10-15 years.
N/Apts The Wine Advocate– 2013 vintage
FOR THE 2013 VINTAGE
Already in bottle, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Elixir des Papes is a medium-bodied, forward and delicious effort that makes the most of the vintage. Made from 100% Grenache (completely destemmed and aged all in stainless steel), it gives up plenty of sweet strawberry, raspberry, garrigue and hints of flowers. While it won’t make old bones and will need consuming over the coming 3-4 years, it’s a fun drink.
93pts The Wine Advocate– 2017 vintage
FOR THE 2017 VINTAGE
The impressive 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Elixir des Papes is 100% Grenache, fermented in concrete and then aged in stainless steel. With no wood, it reveals hints of thyme and cracked pepper alongside red raspberry and mint notes. It’s full-bodied, rich and velvety, with a long finish and building tannins. Give it two to three years and drink it over the next decade.
