This has been a favorite winery of mine for several years. The husband-and-wife team of Julien Zernott and Delphine Rousseau farm 50 acres of high-altitude vineyards along an ancient pilgrimage path (the pas de l’escalette) to the Mediterranean. They produce savory red blends like this one, based on grenache, carignan and syrah, that make excellent partners to roasted or grilled meats. I tasted the 2017, and the importer has recently moved on to the 2018. Both are in the market, and based on this winery’s track record, don’t worry about the vintage. ABV: 13.5 percent
