93pts The Wine Advocate– 2005 vintage

FOR THE 2005 VINTAGE
The 2005 Grattalops is a blend of Garnacha and Carinena from vines averaging 65 years of age. It was aged for 12 months in French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it displays a bouquet of crushed rock, scorched earth, lavender, espresso, black cherry, and plum. Full-bodied, on the palate it has excellent volume, layers of fruit, superb grip, and a plush personality. This lengthy effort will continue to unwind for another 2-3 year and offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2020.

93pts The Wine Advocate– 2009 vintage

FOR THE 2009 VINTAGE
I had the chance to visit the extremely steep slope where the grapes for the 2009 Gratallops Vi de Vila Partida Bellvisos are sourced. It is a blend of Cariñena and Garnacha and the wilderness of the vineyard is found in the bottle. This is a wine they age and sell when they believe it starts to show some of its true colors and is therefore more developed than other new releases. 2009 is more powerful than other vintages, and the Cariñena shows quite closed with some earthy aromas, notes of iron and tree bark. This is a ripe, powerful, serious expression of Gratallops.

92pts Vinous – Antonio Galloni– 2007 vintage

FOR THE 2007 VINTAGE
(made from a blend of garnatxa peluda and caranyana (sic) de coster, aged for 20 months in French oak barriques, 60% of them new): Bright ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of candied red fruits, potpourri and spicecake, with a strong mineral overtone. Offers sweet, energetic raspberry and cherry flavors and hints of anise and candied rose and white pepper. Closes on a spicy note, with nervy acidity carrying through the long, gently sweet finish.
