Thibault Liger Belair Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 16

This diversity of terroirs gives a rich and dense wine, much closer to the roundness and finesse of Vosne-Romanée than the power of the classic Clos Vougeot from the north part of the appellation.  We often say in Burgundy “the round cuvée” because it absorbs all the types of soils that we can find in the appellation.

N/Apts Vinous – Antonio Galloni– 2016 vintage

FOR THE 2015 VINTAGE
(vinified with 40% whole clusters, the highest percentage yet for this wine; 50% new oak): Bright, dark red. Superb lift to the aromas of black cherry, violet and inky minerality, plus a whiff of goat cheese. Dense, sappy and energetic; more closed in the mouth than the nose suggests but boasts lovely subtle sweetness, precision and mineral spine, not to mention an element of power. Liger-Belair’s holding is in the southwest corner of Clos Vougeot, “across from Echézeaux,” and features long rows of vines that extend through limestone, brown clay and silt soil. (92-94)

N/Apts The Wine Advocate– 2016 vintage

FOR THE 2016 VINTAGE
The 2016 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comes 70% from the older vines planted in the 1940s and includes 40% whole cluster. It has a touch of reduction on the nose, but the palate is well structured, strict and linear, fresh in the mouth. (90-92)

N/Apts BURGHOUND.com– 2016 vintage
