Of all the Torbreck releases this is one that really needs patience. Its immediate charm can be enjoyed upon release with a few hours breathing, but after the first 6 months, the rest should be locked away for at least 5 years and then (in the best years) for another 15. The 2006 Descendant is another impressive release of this wine, the colour making that immediately apparent; completely black/purple with healthy, vibrant magenta hues. A pure, wild, powerful nose of blackberry and tar is complimented by a gentle floral lift of lavender and violets. Full-bodied with great concentration, silky tannins and perfectly judged extract, this vigorous and suave young wine has a long, long future ahead of it.

Tech Sheet

95pts James Suckling – 2015 vintage

“Super tarry with a coal, smoky edge. It is bursting with aromas of blackberries and dark plums, as well as a dark-spice thread and plenty of black licorice. The palate has deep flavors in a smooth, fleshy medium-bodied frame. Impressive concentration, deep ripeness and a long future. Drink or hold.”

96pts Wine Spectator – 2013 vintage

“This is like biting into a perfect slice of warm blueberry or huckleberry pie, down to the buttery crust, with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla bean. The tannins are thick but velvety and polished, showing magnificent persistence. Shiraz and Viognier. Drink now through 2026.”
