ABOUT THE WINERY

In 1990, Marc and Laurence Pasquet take the plunge and move into Chateau Mondesir-Gazin in Plassac, encouraged by the optimism and faith of their families. It is the beginning of a lot of hard work. The vineyard: 35 acres (14 hectares) growing in clayey-limestone slopes. The vines are from 5 to 55 years old. The typical grape varieties used are Merlot, Cabernet, Sauvignon and Malbec. The wineries: one is used for the first year (maturation), the other one for the second year. This way of working favors quality over quantity.

Behind a very modern appearance hides in fact a traditional way of working. No chemical weed killers, no pesticides or anti-mold treatment. Vineyards are ploughed; fertilizers are banned. The medium vitality of the vines result in a small, but very mature, harvest. The grapes are always harvested entirely by hand. The extraction of the color and tannins is always smooth and slow. Planting 7 acres (3 hectares) with 7 400 stocks per hectare was a small revolution in the region. This guaranties an excellent ratio between quality and price.
